Pat Testing
We are getting more and more people ringing up our office and saying why do we have to have our equipment Pat Tested as its not law ?
True its not law but most insurance companies request it to be carried out in rented or tenanted properties, hotel, pubs clubs, shops are all on the list if there was a electrical fault or fire you may not be covered by your insurance.
Field View Electrical attended a callout last Tuesday morning to one of our customers who had been loaned a ice cream freezer for the summer this was put into operation without having a Pat Test carried out on it during the morning of Tuesday the fire alarms in the building it was housed sounded when the cleaner began to check the buildings he came across two room full of smoke and it was the freezer on fire in the motor compartment under the freezer, it turned out to be caused by an faulty switch, the building wasn't damaged but the was smoke damaged which resulted in a big deep clean and would of saved a full freezer full of ice cream and a lot of elbow grease,
It would of only taken 5 minutes to test this equipment and to ensure it was safe to put into operation.
